The Golden Wolves held a 44-30 lead after the first two quarters of play and held off a late Albright push to secure the 15 point, 84-69 victory over the Lions.
How it Happened
- The Golden Wolves came out flying to start the contest and started the game on a 17-4 scoring run in the first five minutes. Kylie Bradford got things going with a pull up jumper, Jordyn Ingelido added two jumpers and Ryliegh Poole knocked down a three pointer during the stretch. Olivia Burke added four points and Jennah DeGout tallied four as well.
- Albright responded with an 8-4 run over the next two minutes to cut the lead to nine, 21-12 with under three to go in the quarter.
- Ingelido and Burke both knocked down two free throws a piece to extend the lead back to double digits, 25-12 but a three pointer and two free throws before the half pulled the Lions within eight, 25-17 after one quarter of play.
- Albright cut the Alvernia lead to six after two free throws to start the second quarter but two buckets from Burke and a free throw from DeGout pushed the Alvernia lead back to 11, 30-19 after the first two minutes of play.
- The Golden Wolves continued to extend the lead after a pair of driving layups from Bradford and Ingelido and a free throw from Paige O'Brien made it a 14 point, 35-21 game with under five to go in the half.
- The Lions pulled within nine, 35-26 after a three point play from Gigi Serrano but the Golden Wolves answered back with a Burke driving layup pushed it back to 37-26 with two minutes to go in the half.
- Alvernia continued to hold the lead in the final two minutes of the second quarter and ripped off a 7-4 run to end the half. O'Brien knocked down a three ball, Kyle Reed hit a pull up jumper from the elbow and both Aaliyah Ferrer and Nicole Etchison both knocked down free throws as Alvernia headed into the half with a 14 point, 44-30 lead over the Lions.
- The Golden Wolves shot an even 50% from the field in the first half and held the Lions to just 25% from the floor. Burke led all scorers with 12 in the first half and DeGout grabbed nine rebounds. Alvernia outrebounded Albright 30-18 in the first half including a 20-8 advantage on the defensive glass.
- Alvernia's 44 points in the first half is the most points the Golden Wolves have scored in the first half this season.
- The Golden Wolves held the double digit lead in the first four minutes of the second half at 15, 56-41, thanks to five points by Poole, a corner three by Burke and two from Bradford and DeGout.
- The Lions cut it to nine, 57-46, after a three pointer and a two point bucket but the Golden Wolves swung the momentum back in their favor and ended the quarter on a 9-4 scoring run and held a 16, 66-50 advantage over the Lions heading into the fourth quarter.
- Albright struck first in the fourth quarter after an and one opportunity but the missed free throw gave the Golden Wolves an opportunity at the opposite end of the floor and Alvernia's Bradford converted her chance at an and one to make it 69-54 Golden Wolves.
- The Lions cut the lead to 11 after back to back two point buckets as the Golden Wolves took a time out with 7:33 to go in the game with an 11 point, 69-58 lead.
- Albright came out of the timeout and rattled off a 7-0 scoring run after two three pointers and a free throw pulled the Lions within four, 69-65. The four point deficit is the closest deficit since the Golden Wolves led 5-2 early in the first quarter.
- The Golden Wolves answered on the next possession after Burke knocked down a two point jumper to push the lead to 72-65. The jumper marked a career high 22 points for the Alvernia first year.
- Alvernia's Ingelido hit a big time three point bucket over an Albright defender as the shot clock was running down to push the lead back to ten, 75-65 but the Lions answered right away with a driving layup to make it 75-67 and force an Alvernia timeout with 1:21 left in the game.
- The Golden Wolves came out of the timeout and got a big time bucket from Poole who knocked down a pull up jumper from the elbow and DeGout made a free throw to make it 78-67 with under a minute to go.
- Alvernia then ended the game on a 6-2 scoring run with Burke knocking down four from the charity stripe and Poole added two as well to secure the 15 point, 84-69 victory over the rival Lions.
Inside the Box Score
- Olivia Burke led all scorers with a career high 26 points. Burke went 3-5 from beyond the arc, 7-8 at the free throw line and added four rebounds, two assists and one steal.
- Ryleigh Poole tied her career high with 14 points, she went 5-6 from the floor, 2-2 from three and 2-2 from the free throw line. Poole added two boards, two assists, one steal and turned the ball over just one time.
- Jennah DeGout recorded her sixth double-double of the season and recorded a season high 18 rebounds and added two blocks and ten points.
- Kylie Bradford added ten points and seven rebounds and Jordyn Ingelido tallied 11 points and two assists.
- The Golden Wolves shot 47% from the floor and 57% from beyond the arc, both of which are season highs for Alvernia.
- The Alvernia defense held the Lions to just under 35% from the floor and 30% from three. They forced 11 Albright turnovers and out rebounded the Lions 51-36 including 37-19 on the defensive glass.
Of Note
- The Golden Wolves have now beaten crosstown rivals Albright five of the last six times they have faced off.
- Alvernia's 84 points ties a season high and is also the most points the Golden Wolves have ever scored against the Lions.
- All five of Alvernia's starting lineup scored in double figures, which is the first time all season five Golden Wolves have recorded ten or more points.
