Field Hockey Moves to 10-0 All-Time Against Saint Francis with 3-0 Victory

LEWISBURG, Pa.- Three second-half goals powered Bucknell (2-1) to a 3-0 victory over regional rival Saint Francis (1-2) in a Friday night duel at Holmes Stadium as the Bison opened their 2025 home schedule. The Orange & Blue broke through in the 38th minute for a goal and added two insurance tallies in the final three minutes to clinch the triumph.

Saint Francis dominated the pace of play in the first quarter, continually probing and skirting past the Bison defense. Goalkeeper Sarah Althouse, who recorded her fifth career clean sheet, did well at blunting any Red Flash attacks, and keeping the score knotted at zero.

The second quarter saw a vice versa situation of the opening session. Bucknell fired four shots at the beleaguered Red Flash goalkeeper but the score remained 0-0 as the halftime buzzer sounded.

Bucknell broke through for its first goal in the third quarter. A penalty corner set up the situation. Freshman Jip Zwaard fired the shot into goal and junior Ryane Fisahn nicely stuck her stick out and deflected the spinning sphere into the cage for the 1-0 advantage.

The goal shifted the momentum toward the Bison and Bucknell added two more goals to seal the win. In the 57th minute, Gracie Kothari passed the ball to a waiting Sally Hunter. Her first shot was blocked but Hunter followed up her attempt and shot the deflection past the goalie for the 2-0 lead.

The Bison definitively put the matter to rest with a third goal one minute later. Kira Leclercq launched her signature aerial and Reese Czajkowski chased down the pass and expertly maneuvered past the goalkeeper for the easy conversion.

The final bell rang two minutes later and Bucknell moved to 2-1 on the season and 10-0 all-time against Saint Francis. It will be the last meeting between the two Keystone State schools with the Red Flash departing for Division III next year.
