Cedar Falls, IA (January 11, 2025) - Alvernia University dropped duals to #13 Loras College and Wisconsin Whitewater on day two of the NWCA National Duals Saturday at the University of Northern Iowa.
Match 1: #13 Loras took the first six bouts of the dual to jump out to a 26-0 lead through the first half of the match. Alvernia recorded victories at the 174, 184 and 285 pound matches but it was not enough as Loras recorded the 32-11 victory over the Golden Wolves.
Match 2: #16 Wisconsin Whitewater recorded three straight wins to start the dual
How it Happened
Match 1: #13 Loras: 32, #11 Alvernia: 11
- Loras got on the board first after a 18-9 major decision by Connor Fiser over Alvernia's Julian Zaragoza at the 125 pound match to make it 4-0 Loras.
- Alvernia James King then dropped a close, 1-0 decision to Wiley Jessup in the 133 pound match and Garrett Gehr dropped the 141 pound match to Nosa Egbon by fall in 6:16 as Loras increased the lead to 13-0.
- #12 Chase Fiser tallied a 11-2 major decision over Quinn Tobin at the 149 pound bout, Allen Catour defeated Aiden Swann by decision, 8-4 and Alvernia forfeited the 165 pound match as Loras extended the lead to 26-0.
- William Knapp got the Golden Wolves on the board in the 174 pound bout after a 10-8 decision over Gunnar Thompson and Hayden McLellan recorded a 19-4 tech fall over Kam Royster at 184 pounds to make it 26-8.
- Alvernia forfeited at 197 pounds to give Loras the 32-8 lead and Owen Reber recorded a close, 10-8 decision over Jackson Van Keuren at the 285 pound bout but it was not enough as Loras secured the 32-11 victory.
Match 2: #16 Wisconsin Whitewater: 29, #11 Alvernia: 13
- Wisconsin Whitewater recorded victories in the first three matches of the dual to grab a 12-0 lead early. #5 Jalen Dunson recorded a 18-2 tech fall over Alvernia's Julian Zaragoza in the 125 pound bout, James King fell to Luke Berktold by decision, 5-1 at 133 pounds and Tyler Weidman recorded a 15-7 major decision over Garrett Gehr at 141 pounds.
- Quinn Tobin got the Golden Wolves on the board with a 5-1 decision over Lucio Morgan at 149 pounds to make it 12-3.
- Aiden Swann followed Tobin with a 10-6 decision over Luke Swan at the 157 pound match to make it 12-6.
- The Golden Wolves then forfeited the 165 pound match and dropped the 174 pound match after Whitewater's Caden Kirchner recorded a 18-2 tech fall over William Knapp pushed the Whitewater lead to 23-6.
- Alvernia forfeited the 197 pound match before Mauro Pellot-Vazquez recorded a 6-3 decision over Isaak Smith in the 285 pound match but Whitewater secured the 29-13 victory over the Golden Wolves.
